CPC video’s popularity rises

A three-minute English-lan¬guage video promoting the Communist Party of China (CPC) first posted online in 2013 has gained renewed popularity on the Internet two years after President Xi Jinping launched a high-profile anti-corruption campaign.

The video, "the CPC is with you along the way," follows an equally popular video explain¬ing the path to the top-tier lead¬ship in China.

The video showed ordinary Chinese people discussing their dreams and aspirations. It said that "the 80 million CPC members together with the entire population are working for everyone's dream for ev¬ery dreamer should be given a stage."

The video also showcased different sights in China - from the Great Wall to modern sky¬scrapers - and displayed daily lives of Chinese people and the problems they face, like air pollution and traffic jams. Pro¬duced by the studio called "Fux¬ing lushang," the video was reportedly first uploaded on the Internet in December 2013.

It was uploaded by different media outlets on their websites and social media accounts. On youku.com, one of China's larg¬est online video websites, it was viewed over 400,000 times as of press time.

The video first gained atten¬tion when it was uploaded in December 2013 when Presi¬dent Xi took office. As the re¬form deepened, the video gives people an opportunity to fur¬ther understand the CPC's atti¬tude towards the outside world, china.com.cn reported.

"It showed that the dreams of every Chinese citizen blend into the Chinese Dream of a great rejuvenation of the na¬tion," said Zhang Xixian, a pro¬fessor with the Party School of the CPC Central Committee.

Zhang said that the video re¬vealed the CPC's relatively ob¬jective attitudes towards reform achievements and challenges.

Many netizens said it's a good way to promote the CPC to the world and the video re¬flected progress made in gov¬ernment publicity efforts.

"The CPC has changed its old propaganda methods and has begun to apply much prac¬tical and effective ways of pro¬moting itself through the In¬ternet," said Dong Guanpeng, a professor at the Communi¬cation University of China in Beijing.

The studio's name literally means "on the road to rejuvena¬tion," and it reportedly refers to Fuxing Road in Beijing where many ministries and national agencies are located.

The studio also made anoth¬er popular video, "The Making of A Chinese Leader," a five-minute video in both Chinese and English versions which ap¬peared on youku.com on Octo¬ber 14, 2013, garnering over 1.1 million views.

Dong noted that this video was another successful attempt to promote the image of the na¬tion after "The making of a Chi¬nese leader" in 2013.

"The making of a Chinese leader" described the election process of the US president and UK prime minister. It then went on to explain the tough process which President Xi had to undergo from his days in grass-roots positions.
