Singapore's President Tony Tan Keng Yam said his wife and he are, like all Singaporeans, "deeply concerned" about the condition of the country's first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew on his Facebook account on Sunday evening.
The President's post comes after the Prime Minister's Office announced that Lee Kuan Yew has "weakened further" on Sunday morning.
"We are grateful to the medical and nursing teams providing round-the-clock care to Mr Lee and all other patients in hospital now. As our healthcare professionals deliver the very best medical care possible, may they continue to have strength and stamina in their tireless efforts," President Tony Tan Keng Yam said in a note signed by him and his wife Mary.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the Prime Minister and their family at this difficult time," President Tony Tan Keng Yam added.
Singapore's Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong joined well-wishers for Lee Kuan Yew at Singapore General Hospital on Sunday morning. Concern has mounted in recent days over Lee Kuan Yew's health, with many well-wishers visiting Singapore General Hospital, Tanjong Pagar Community Club to drop off cards and gifts.
